Background:
Sandra de Macedo Ribeiro, Principal Investigator and Leader of the Protein Crystallography Group of IBMC (2009-present), was trained as a Biochemist (University of Porto, 1992) and did her PhD in Protein Crystallography (Technische Universität München, 1999) at the Max-Planck-Institut für Biochemie (Martinsried, Germany). Over the last few years her research has focused on the structure-function relationships in disease-implicated enzymes, namely the ubiquitin hydrolase involved in Machado-Joseph's disease, ataxin-3
